I have really enjoyed reading a nonfiction book. It is very interesting to learn about real events and about history. It is also very nice to change up the genres I read once and a while. I actually picked this book because my dad loves nonfiction and he suggested it. He was right. This is a great read. It is hard to put down and there are no boring parts. When I read the book I feel like Mark and Gabby are talking to me. I think that anyone my age would be fascinated by this story. There are some great pictures in the middle of the book, which I love looking at. There is a picture of Gabby and Mark near the ocean. I encourage you all to read this great book. This book represents an important time in history.

Book Review of Gabby A Story of Courage and Hope By: Gabriellle Giffords and Mark Kelly
I have recently started a touching book called Gabby A Story of Courage and Hope. This is the story of Gabrielle Giffords and her long recovery process after being shot in the head. She is a hero for all of us. I cannot even imagine being in her place. The story begins at the beach in Florida. Gabby loved the beach and made sure that she went there after her horrific ordeal. I thought it was interesting that the story began with her recovery and then went back to her life before the shooting. On January 8, 2011, in Tucson, Arizona Gabby was shot in the head after speaking to her fellow citizens. Six people died and thirteen people were seriously hurt. It looked like Gabby would not live. This was an attempted assassination. The book really helps you understand the relationship between Gabby and Mark and how they were able to overcome and survive such a horrible time in their lives. I was intrigued to read how she began to talk and walk again. Her first word five weeks after the shooting was "spoon." The word she was supposed to say was "chair" but she stubbornly stuck to the word "spoon." This really showed me what a strong and independent person she is.

Abby,
ReplyDeleteI loved your blog post! It is very well written and professional. The book Gabby sounds really entrigueing. I would like to read this book because I don't usually read non-fiction books. It is so sad that she got shot and had to relearn everything. I agree with you that sticking to say the word spoon shows how powerful and independent she is even though she wasn't capable of much at the moment. Great blog!
love ya,
Evan
