Book Review of Trauma by Dr. James Cole

I have recently started reading an exciting non-fiction book called Trauma: My Life As An Emergency Surgeon. I chose this book because I am fascinated by the medical profession. Sometimes I watch shows on T.V. that deal with emergency room situations. When I saw this book on Amazon I knew I had to read it. This is a memoir about Dr. Cole's experiences in the ER and being a doctor for the army. It is very interesting to hear all the heart breaking and tragic stories. Sometimes the patients survive. Sometimes the patients die. Dr. Cole works in Illinois as the head of the emergency unit at one of the suburban hospitals. One chapter that was particularly interesting was when he talked about 9/11 and his transitioning from the vice president of the surgical unit to the president. He was very happy about this, but very upset about this horrible world event. Dr. Cole is a likable person of course. He is compassionate and caring. He always has a positive attitude. I can hardly put this book down because it is so dramatic and interesting. The detail that he includes creates a clear picture in my mind of the events that he is describing. It is almost as though I am watching one of my ER T.V shows. I am now hooked onto non-fiction books. I like reading about events that actually happened. It's exciting! I used to think that I had to read a book that was about a girl because I am girl. I am realizing that it is fun to read out of that genre and comfort zone. I highly recommend this book for anyone my age because it is an exciting read, that is hard to put down. Dr. Cole is an amazing writer and seems like an amazing doctor! I hope you get this book.

  4. Abby, I congratulate you for stepping out of your comfort zone to read a book like this, because I don't think I could ever be as daring as you! This kind of subject matter does really scare me to watch on tv shows so I would be curious to see if I could be as engaged as you. Great job!

Great job! I would never pick you as a nonfiction reader! I have always seen your as one of those girls that hated anything about surgery or doctors. Thanks for letting me comment!

  6. Abby,
Amazing blog post! I loved how detailed you were! It is so great that you are reading non-fiction books. I will have to start doing the same! :) Is the book scary though? I also get a little grossed out and scared if there is too much blood and stuff. I think I would still like to read the book though! Great blog!!!
